There are a lot of wealthy people in New York, but the richest person in the city is currently Jim Simons.
Simons was born in 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts. He studied mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
After graduating from Harvard, he became a research mathematician at the Institute for Defense Analyses. He later worked as a codebreaker for the National Security Agency.

In 1982, he founded Renaissance Technologies, a hedge fund that uses quantitative methods to trade in financial markets.
Simons is worth an estimated 28.1 billion, and he made his fortune through hedge fund management.
He is currently the CEO of Renaissance Technologies, a successful hedge fund.
